Ireland's Finest!
Should I be worried that my pheasants are starting to pick each other?

covey
Should I be worried that my pheasants are starting to pick each other? I asume the birds are in a pen and not still on the rearing field, how big is the pen and is there plenty of cover in it, how many birds. as a quick fix put down a straw ride and put some feed on it, hopefully its boredom and not stress due to over crowding. covey
Ireland's Finest!
The pen is massive. It has loads of cover, I'd be lucky to see forty pheasants every time I go in there's that much cover. I've only 200 birds in it.
webber
Avoid putting straw in the pen. Straw carries a fungus which can easily cause aspergilosis (spelling?). This will easily kill your poults. Try hanging some cds, the poults will peck at their own reflection and amuse themselves for hours. webber
ollie
If you are wanting to provide something for the birds to pick at, then hang up a few cabbages around the pen; it gives the birds something to pick at and also is a good food source. Ireland's Finest!
Placing cabbage's around the pen has worked brilliantly I've seen no fresh blood on the birds and they seem to just love eating them as well, thanks for the tip lads. As soon as we hang the cabbages up in the pen the pheasants will have them devoured in days. Glad it worked.
