malkiserow
With my new FAC ticket on its way next week, I am looking for a spec for a .22lr - actually 2 specs. Firstly for a budget set up and secondly for a mid-range set up. What do you think? What would your dream set-up be?
Paddy Galore!
new cz thumbhole looks good, weirach hw60 varmint even better, sako quad is expensive, far better off with a 2nd hand finnfire. glass is optional, i have a leupold 3-12x40 on one, a 6x44 optimate on another, and a hawke 3-9x50 on my anni match54. strix
malkiserow I too am waiting on a FAC and in the meantime I have put together this list (trouble being a novice at this rifle lark I have probably got something wrong with the list! However I rest assured that someone on Pigeon Watch will point out the error of my ways!!) I have applied for both a .22lr and a .17hmr and have picked on: CZ 16" Varmint for both calibres. SAK mod Rim Fire Magic trigger kit Harris 9-13 bipod S-L Scope: Nikko Stirling Platinum Nighteater 30mm 6-24x56 (I suspect I will be told off that I will not need anything over 12 mag!) That is what I would buy if I could not find, on this site or on Guntrader, a second-hand set of kit roughly matching that list. Good luck and I look forward to seeing what the seasoned warriors have to say!! :-))
kent
Only one should be .22 lr the other should be a 17 HMR or just maybee a .22 mag, it all depends on what your gonna use them for. My preference is the CZ varmint and own one in .22 one in .17 both are the shorter barrel versions and they both carry very similar scopes 3-9 x zoom type spec with non target turrets. I dislike big mag scopes on rimfires and feel its just a hang up from those used to the modern trend in air rifles and dialing in the dope on target turrets is not on when your out hunting real live quarry at normal rimfire ranges. Trigger kits are not essential i don't fit them practice and good tecnique are way more important than a lighter, crisper pull, the CZ rimfire triggers are fine once you get a 1000 or more rounds through them they are actually pretty darn good! al4x
As said a cz will be ideal and a decent workhorse of a gun, being .22lr you can buy second hand with no real issues so you have more flexibility, scope wise I'd probably bung a decent 6x42 on it if you're just shooting at sensible ranges and lamping with it. If you want a more expensive gun have a look at the Anschutz offerings. I have to say having a mate who bought his cz new and shooting it alongside mine the trigger kit on mine versus the factory trigger did make a fair difference when you tried them side by side but to an extent you can get used to most triggers
kipper
I Have a Rimfire Magic custom Ruger 10/22. Cost me about £600ish with a spare mag sak mod and some ammo. I would not swap it for any other rimfire. some people dis like the ruger 10/22 but I can not fault it and in over 3 yrs it has not let me down, I have shot 100s of bunny's with it. there is nothing standard on it. volquartsen barrel, trigger kit, quick release, bolt damper, core lite camo stock, etc, they are built by rimfire magic. When I first got it I used to get spent cases not ejecting but after a good polish of the bolt and a few rounds through it no prob's. Good luck Kipper
