blacky
My 1 year old lad has decided to pick dummies up at the ends so it looks like he is smoking a cigar, i have tried walking him about with a dummy in his mouth the right way and he is fine with this but when i send him for a retrieved he picks it up at the ends. Could anybody tell me how i could correct this. Thanks

kent
As above try a heavy hare type or one of those big duck dummies that are meant to encourage correct holding of real game. My current dog started retrieving by the thowing rope about the same age and it sure seems to have worked. when the dog has more experiance with cold dead game i doubt it will be an issue anyway though mine still carries crows back by the wing tip
al4x
Get yourself one of the working dog companies training dummies, seem to be getting very popular as dogs have trouble picking them up from the end as they are rugby ball shaped. http://www.workingdogcompany.co.uk/results.php?category=1 on a side note my GWP picked a pricked pigeon in nettles up by the head and retrieved it like that so things could be worse one of the funnier things I've ever seen but also one that made me think please don't make a habit of it
activeviii
You could teach the pup to hold the dummy right. there was a sticky about this a while ago. the Quest dummy discs are what i use at the moment. i like them because if you throw them like a skipping stone you can lay a scent trail as it rolls. unlike a dummy they hits the deck and just stops. also they fit the pocket so i can always carry one with ease.
