jonesbach
hi guys. recently bought a simmons WTC to fit on my .223, but when ive gone to fit it, the area where the mounts would normally go is too short. Is there anything i can buy to "extend" the front weaver rail back for me to mount this scope?! Thanks jonesbach! :look:
jonesbach
anybody with any ideas???
jamie g
sorry mate i dont get your thread. so you have weaver mounts and have you got them on weaver 2 piece bases ? and thats why you cant bring your scope back enough for your eye to get good view ? if thats the case get a weaver rail for the rifle. then you will have more slots to pick from. which as you no this will let you mount the scope back closer to you. jonesbach
yeh thats the problem..not only can i not get a good view..i cant get the scope on! ive looked for a weaver rail but cant find one..stumped!! thanks for reply, you've confirmed that i can get what i want. Rem223
It would help if we knew what rifle this was for. Weaver do make a range of one piece bases http://www.weaveroptics.com/rings_bases/bases/tactical.aspx This has a listing of bases by rifle manufacturer.... http://www.weaveroptics.com/mountcharts/default.aspx they are aluminium so its easy enough to add extra holes if you can't find one that fits exactly. steve_b_wales
You should buy a Picatinny rail. Google it and see what it looks like.
jamie g
its a rws titan by the look of his sig. i dont no who does a base for them. ? are they not based on the same action as the sauer 202 rifle ? if it is im sure there must be someone that does them Edited October 11, 2010 by jamie g
jonesbach
yes its an RWS TITAN 3 .223. cant seem to find replacement weaver base for them even on some American sites. like you say, they probably adopt the base from another rifle, i just don't know which. I've looked at the Picatinny rail Steve, looks like it could suit, just wasn't sure if the holes would match up to the existing ones or may have to modify. nothing is ever simple eh!lol! Mr_Logic
Ah. I had one of them (but in 243), same issue - I sold it because I couldn't use anything other than really long scopes.
jonesbach
aint giving in that easily!lol! though you wold have an answer with a name like that too.. cheers anyway!
garyb
The 2 or 3 scopes I had on that very rifle all fitted with with the standard bases an Leupold rings.
jonesbach
the simmons ive bought has a shorter distance of tube to fit to. (need to take a pic and post it) when i fit the mounts to the scope, if the rear mount sits in the slot of the weaver base then the front mount is about an inch from the front base. i need the bases to be closer together or just have one rail. annoying really as i though most scopes would be reasonably standard fitting wise!aaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh!! jamie g
what you want then is a weaver mount but the ring reaches back from the base. have you tryed the sportsmatch site im sure they do them
jonesbach
yeh, sportsmatch do a ring that reaches back (£30) and also a weaver extended base (£30) wasnt intending to spend that extra again but may have to! first option is what steve b suggested, picatinny rail from ant supplies £8...! see how it goes! Will Weaver rings fit a pictany rail , ie are the dovetails the same ? Dave
Beardo
i thought Weaver and Picatinny were the same thing?
Dave 101
I have just looked it up , I new there was a difference but its not the dovetail so weaver rings will fit , its the difference of the width in the slot that is on top of the rail . garyb
i thought Weaver and Picatinny were the same thing? Similar but not the same... I've got weaver style rings, on a Picatinny rail - but a Picatinny rail is very different to a weaver base!
jonesbach
update... received the picatinny rail but still not long enough to reach over the action and be screwed down. longest they had was 5.5 inches and i needed 6.5 inches(no sniggering please! ). now looking for what model i will need for an extended weaver base as i need to match up the tapped holes to accept the base. other than that, its a £30 mount from sportsmatch....boooo! wonder how steve b got on with his? Scope now fits and will have a trial on friday!

garyb
I had Leupold mounts on the rifle. http://www.leupold.com/tactical/products/mounting-systems-and-accessories/mounting-systems/prw-rings/ Edited November 30, 2010 by garyb
jonesbach
oh right..dont think ill go down that line...lol! could you tell me what the differences between the expensive mounts and the cheaper options are? is there such a think as a "built in rubber layer" to absorb the recoil or something?
