At about 6pm my neighbour knocked on the door with a dozen eggs from his chickens, they always taste good,so i thought i would return the favour, and armed with the semi and with jake in tow i popped out.

The weather down here is very strange today,it is very warm and humid with a strong wind, but the wind is very warm. There wasn't much about, but as i walked into a cut a pigeon came out of the trees to the right and tried to jinx his way across to my left and up the valley, folded him cleanly and watched as it went over a stream crashed through the bushes and disappeared into the reeds,i sent Jake in and after a minute or so a snout with a pigeon appeared under the fence followed by a happy dog tail going 10 to the dozen.

We didn't see much else and it was going dark quickly (7pm) winters on its way,so decided to walk one of the large open fields to let jake have a run, there were a few rabbits in the distance but the wind was behind us so they scarpered,in the bottom of the field is a little copse,so with the hand torch under the shotgun i rounded the corner, and there was a rabbit trying to leg it,i hit it on the run and it rolled, but was still alive,i sent jake straight in,and i was ready to chase up as he had never retrieved a live rabbit, but he was up to the job, quick sniff, pick up and straight to me,and it was despatched quickly.

Got home and knocked on my neighbours door with a pigeon breast and a gutted rabbit,he was over the moon,he loves all game, and promised me a few more eggs soon,in return i told him if i get out on the pigeons i will drop a few more off.

Would swap some of my pigeons for fresh eggs :good:

The chickens are at the bottom of his garden, they have a penthouse coop and run, they are fed the best there is,and are pampered beyond belief.

In return they give eggs with a golden yolk, that taste fantastic, its also a bit of a meeting place for a few of the neighbours to lean on the fence and chew the fat,and i can let Jake run round the field that it all borders with.
