mickmep
you could try brake cleaner from an auto factors ( or halfords if your loaded ) may have to agitate it with a toothbrush as well. cleans the gas piston on the sx3

Catamong
Haggis at West Country Guns will sell you some "Jungle Juice", that'll shift the crud, I'm also told they come out of a dishwasher looking like new, but I've not tried that one myself. les666
try a 'very' dilute solution of hydrochloric acid, this dissolves all the crud but shouldnt be used instead of cleaning in the normal way.... its normally sold in places like Robert Dyas as a drain cleaner in 500ml bottles, the way I do it is.... Small plastic bowl on draining board ie old small margarine pot... pour water in first, add small amount of acid taking great care with exposed skin and eyes, use plastic gloves and eye protection....carefully put items in one at a time for a second or two, must be fully submersed or it will leave a line...solution may fizz a bit if badly gunked up, if so don't breath in fumes ie have window open.. Take out of pot and place in water (I use sink with water), when all done rinse, dry, oil and lube thread. You can pour the solution down the drain and rinse it away..finally carefully dispose of tub.. hope it helps..
