kyska
Hi All, Just had my cert back after variation, and was just wondering of a couple of things. Ok, so 6. The .17HMR rifle, .22 rifle-air, .22RF rifle, .204CF rifle and ammunition will be used for shooting vermin and ground game and for zeroing on ranges, or land deemed suitable...blah blah....closed licence 7. The .22RF rifle and ammunition to which this certificate relates may be used for sporting purposes, zeroing and the humane killing of animals, in a lawful manner whilst observing public safety. 8. The humane killing of animals and the shooting of animals for the protection of other animals and humans. I have the 'humane killing' as I now have a legal disposal channel for any of my fallen stock, which negates the need of a knackerman. What does the 'sporting purpose' bit mean? I also need to check whether the .22RF used for humane killing is still a closed licence, what are your initial thoughts? I ask as I have been asked in the past to kill fallen stock on other farms but obviously haven't with a firearm as I didn't have the conditions. And does condition 8. mainly the shooting of animals to protect other animals, cover a sheep worrying/dog attacking sheep scenario? I have had no need, and most likely will have no need for this as our stock is well protected anyway, just wondering.
Paddy Galore!
Hi chap, although the wording is different to mine it looks like your 22lr is "open" as condition 7 doesn't seem to restrict the use to land that's been surveyed by the police, i.e "in a lawful manner" (where you have lawful rights to shoot) and "observing public safety" ( you've surveyed the land and deemed it safe to shoot) condition 8 will cover the scenario of dogs worrying sheep and such like, also predation by fox. kyska
GRAM, thats how I read it, but the first condition specifically names the .22rf to be used on land deemed...blah blah...so I'm assuming it is open for the specific purpose of humane killing of farm animals... It also states sporting purposes for that particular calibre in the 7th condition, i've never had a partially open licence other than for my target rifles, mine reads differently so forgive me if i'm wrong but it reads like the 22 is ok for anywhere you have lawful authority to shoot. Tell you what, if thats the case I'll be very confused as they refused to open up the FAC just for air rifle recently! Obviously I'll ring and ask, I imagine its a clerical mistake and they'll ask for it to be sent back.
Dekers
Seems somewhat odd wording, I'm not sure what to make of it, mine is Open in every respect, and makes liberal use of the term...and all other lawful quarry That keeps things simple! I think a word with your region may be in order for clarification!

Absolutely, just thought I'd put it up for discussion, point 7 is a facsimilie of whats on the fac, the other two are abreviated slightly, but with the salient points in. Whats confused me is when i asked for humane killing of farm animals its come back as humane killing of animals (no mention of fallen stock or farm animals) and sporting use I'll ring on monday and let you all know. malkiserow
Some seem to say partially open licence but doesn't clause 7 go with clause 6 meaning that it is not open and 7 applies but has also to comply with 6 ? Maybe I am reading this wrong?

Maybe I am reading this wrong? it's confusing isn't it? i read it as clause 6 is the general condition "closed" but clause 7 is item specific for the 22lr only and is worded similarly to an open condition. bloody euro babble! why can't they just speak plain english!!!!
