Reload
I will be buying a whistle very soon, and was wondering which pitch is best for my ESS? I think I will be going for the Acme gun dog type, but it comes in a few pitches. 210.5 and 211.5. I have Googled this and come up with mixed opinions. Is it just trial and error? MC
I use a 210.5 for both my springers, they are not so higher pitched as the others. It doesn't really matter as we all blow them differently anyway. My own view is the Acme type are the best because if you lose one (and you will) you can just go and get another one. I once forgot my whistle on a shoot day and borrowed a stag horn one of another beater. I may as well not have bothered as Merlin took no notice of it. I now have at least 3 in the car at any one time and usually a few dotted around in various coats. The other good thing with the Acme one is you can take the ring off and stick them in the cutlery rack of your dishwasher.

WGD
Any pitch you like as long as you are consistent with it and use the same pitch all the time.
