Gordon R
It is no guess - it is based on the gun's serial number letters. Providing it is in good condition - these are guns made to last a lifetime and possibly a bit more. Look on the large auction site to check gun values. Will you be shooting Game, vermin, wildfowl, clays? a mix? how often? How long have you been shooting? How the gun fits you is far more important than how old it is, guns arent like cars or electronics, more like Art, good ones wont loose money top ones will gain (potentially in value), generic stuff not worth a huge amount unless mint and old.... seeker
All good info ... But I thought the Browning / Miroku code in the serial number is the Year of Manufacture in the Japanese Factory ? For the UK market there will be CIP proof marks (Birmingham or London?) because Japan is not in CIP yet. So search for "Browning shotgun date of manufacture" ... The Beretta codes are Hroof House date codes.
HDAV
All good info ... Varies i think there is a good US site on browning codes http://www.browning.com/customerservice/dategun/detail.asp?id=42 but only goes as far as 1998 when it changed. I thought all brownings were belgium proofed (CIP for europe) regardless of which factory they came from
seeker
Its a while since I used a Browning .. Belgium CIP would make sense .. Does it include a date code?? Isn't the 2 letter code still current? Maybe you can get the Mods to pin the links to the date codes?
Daveo26
Browning/Miroku serial number date code. It's two letters in the serial number (usually at the end): Z=1; Y=2, X=3, W=4, V=5; T=6; R=7; P=8, N=9, M=0. Thus, a gun with PN in the serial number was made in 1989. I bought an MK70 at the weekend the serial number ends in MN making it a 2009. The dating code is nothing to do with the proof marks its the year the gun was was produced.
