Glad to know you are now kitted out, looks a nice truck, lots of happy motoring to come.

I have just taken charge of an L200 4Life, and hoping for a bit more snow.

I have not forgotten the pigeon shooting offer I made, as soon as I get a slot I will come back to you, if you have any dates free drop me a PM and I will see if I can fit one in

Cheers

Hi BB,

Good luck with the L200, much more refined! Looking forward to a day out, I'm freelance so I can generally work around any date except Friday's & Saturday's. I'll drop you a PM anyway.

Cheers,

Mick.

Save yourself a few quid, the Alisport S/S decat is expensive for what it is. Buy an ally one from Pidcocks or Ebay.(I paid £18 & PP for mine)

Spend the extra on a k&n and Silicone replacement pipes for the turbo :-)

Tidy looking 90, have fun.

PS. Underseal, I use new engine oil mixed with diesel, spray it on with an old B&Q manual pump sprayer, do it twice a year, blitz everything underneath (not breaks:-). Let it stand and run/drip off before you put it on your drive. Cheap as chips and no rot for 2 years now !

Looks like a nice truck there, not so sure about the chequerplate sills though.

As has been said before get rid of the egr. The cheapest way is just to go to LR and by the blanking plate that is fitted to non euro 300tdi's and was fitted as standard to the early 300 tdi's like mine.

p.s. how is the heater on yours? Mine is less useful than a dog breathing on the window.

Cheers all for your comments. Yes 7k was a bit steep but the dogs I saw around the 6k mark beggared belief! I've now had time to go through the service history and there are some minor points that need attending to albeit not urgently.

Thanks MITCHF for the advice on the underseal alternative (might wait till the weather gets a bit warmer before giving it a go though), rustmasters quoted £450 to waxoyl the underside and cavities using their 'specialist lances', I suppose that did include steam cleaning the underside first.

What difference does a silicone pipe make in all honesty? The EGR removal kit I purchased has a standard black rubber hose, so that is what I'll use for now. As for the SS downpipe (decat) I've found one for £50 from TD5Alive, is it really not worth fitting a stainless downpipe? From memory changing the downpipe on my old series was always a pig due to the corroded bolts (at least one of which usually sheered off!), my thinking was the SS would last that bit longer and mean that I would only have to replace the rest of it in time.

I've also heard that removing the centre box makes a marked difference in cabin noise, it's loud enough in there at present so unless there's a massive difference in performance I'll probably leave it for now.

Oh, and I like the chequer plate sills! :P

If you are fitting a downpipe I'd reccomend fitting a stainless, mine has one on and it's still in good condition. Just make sure they use stainless flanges as well as stainless pipe as cheaper companies use mild steel which still gives you the joint corrosion problems.

My 90 isn't quite as tidy as yours but it does exactly what I want it to do and for £3200 six months ago. Best of all get out an enjoy it, particularly with the snow to play in!

I know what you're saying ProteuS, I saw many around Cumbria, York, Derbyshire for much less (usually £1-£1.5k) sadly I couldn't find anyone to give me a lift that far north (southern jessies), 100 mile radius was the maximum I could push it and I was without transport. On the positive side, they fetch more when sold around here so I won't lose out provided I keep the servicing and maintenance up.

I also have zero access to workshops to do any of the repairs necessary to one in a less good state of repair, property prices being what they are we did well between us (me and wifey) to even get the deposit to buy a house, the garage is tiny though and choc full of **** at present.

Mick, You made the right decision going for the county windows in the back, I find it much more convenient generally.

I wouldn't worry too much about workshop access. Most landy repairs can be done on the driveway if you don't mind wrapping up warm. You've gone for the best engine so I wouldn't expect it to lose much.

Try to find a friendly local specialist to do your bigger maintainance jobs, the little ones can be done easily by yourself. Do get yourself a pair of oil filter pliers for doing the oil filter though, as I've found they are about the only thing I can get in easily to take off a stubborn filter.

Also depending what you want, when you have your cambelt done, make sure the new spec pulley is installed at the same time, and if you can have someone who knows what they are doing set the timing. Land rover have a habit of setting it off a little just to reduce the engine noise. However if the engine noise is a concern just have it left as is.
