Mightymariner
Hi lads may sound like a silly question but do you guys roost shoot in bare forest with no leaves on the trees or can you do it with evergreen trees?? Atb sg You can do it wherever you can see the birds flighting in and shoot safely, and pick the dead ones after. Best way is to look around the woodland floor for droppings and feathers, then you will know where they are roosting. Only way to find out is by trial and error, see where you can shoot easily, where they are heading, and then position yourself accordingly. Try to leave yourself enough time to pick up before it gets dark and also to let them roost, otherwise they may not return to your wood. Good luck! Blackpowder
A mixture of hardwoods, larch and evergreens makes for some of the best roost shooting. Early birds will like to perch on the top of larch or hardwoods to enjoy the last evening sun before hopping down to roost. Pigeon will live a dense close wood but unless you can pick up a definate flight line where they approach shooting can be difficult if not impossible. In dense woods always expect to loose some shot birds lodged in the branches. Blackpowder
adi1210
also best when windy , try to get to the end of the wood where its sheltered as they always roost out of the cold wind. and they will land into head wind . i found that large ash and oaks are very good rooting trees, also low thorns and christmas trees are very good. dont over shoot the wood or they will find another wood to roost , all the best.. retromlc
don't forget to stand very still and wear camo/face mask,as they may see your face when you are looking up,I've never done to well roost shooting, they are usually quite high when they come in and all the branches distract me
