neil
went out to get in the van this morning and the back garden looks as if one of those yankee patriot missiles has gone astray and landed in it,mounds of earth everywere,i've been noticing mole hills in the surounding fields for a while but until now they have not strayed into allied terratory, perhaps i should have done a pre-emtive strike anyhow i now need to get rid, what "shock and awe" tactics should i use to keep them behind enemy lines,i dont want a long drawn out affair or be drawn into gorilla warfare which my lead to conflict with my neighboring batallions  any suggestions
Pigeon Hunter
Your best options are either to trap them with barrels or scissor traps which are bought for a couple of quid but if neibourghs are a bit funny . you could scoooop the hills up and use it for the garden and then use a bit of a cane stick to make the existing hole fractionaly wider then pour the tinny is amount of creosort down the holes. The smell send them away from where the creosort is.

brooktrout
I heard that those kiddies plastic windmills work ok if stuck in the ground along the runs, cheap to buy and worth atry in a small area. Apparently its the vibration that annoys them. By the way, its usually one single mole that does all that damage to a small lawn

rjimmer
Dont you like moles Rjimmer? No opinion on moles. Just stating what pest controllers use. Phostoxin tablets might also work.
columbus
You need a pair of trainers, for creeping up on them. 32G no 6 shot , applied to the mole hill as its rising, then while the mole is still stunned, you dig with your hands and grab it by the tail. Grabing it any where else will lead to a nasty bite as it is only stunned for a few moments. This meathod has netted me dozens of moles. Try it, it really works. MAJ
Somewhere in my collection of videos I have some dated footage of one Jasper Carrott. He gives some excellent advice to the amateur mole catcher, including the windmills, but comes down heavily in favour of the shotgun. A word or two of warning - don't sit on a revolving bar stool to shoot, and notify the local constabulary. Seriously, I have it on good authority that rose clippings (or any thing prickly - barbed wire etc) pushed into the runs will drive them away quicker than anything.
