Frenchieboy
Certainly looks like Jake enjoyed himself and he more than earned his supper. He's a cracking looking dog, a real credit to you!

welsh1
HMM dont you use a Whistle He is trained to the whistle,as you can see in the video he does't get more than 30yds away, and it is a small cut in the woods,so my voice carries very well, and he can hear me clearly, and see me,at the end of the video he looks back at me to confirm a down command. If it was rough and he was in and out of brambles/bracken,then i would use the whistle,he also responds to hand commands.

Was not meaning that ,what i was trying to say was if you shout in a wood you voice will carry for some distance thus causing alarm to other birds and bring them up early meaning they would be out of range ,but on the other hand if you were flushing birds for standing guns then that would be ok on the other hand if you are just out yourself i dont see how this could benefit you at all? QUOTE from THE SPECIALIST GUNDOG by Guy Wallace (a whistle disturbs game less) And this is very true! at no point did i say your dog is not trained properly it works very well as the brit woodcock is there forte as you will already know i was just suggesting something that could change a good day to a great day

I fully agree with you about the whistle,we had worked that cut for about two hours, the video was just a bit of fun at the end,Jake was lucky to flush up a snipe, because everything else had been flushed and shot at,and was long gone.I couldn't have shot at anything he flushed as i had the shotgun in one hand and the mobile phone recording in the other. It was simply a situation that was ideal to use my voice. There was no offence meant.
