David BASC
Its a good show in my view, loads of stands and all under one massive marquee this year with decent heating!I will be there as will several BASC staff from the Midland Region and from BASC head office. As to which gun to get- shop around, try before you buy in my view to make sure the gun fits. David
sitsinhedges
Never been and the poor reviews from previous years wont have me rushing there I'm afraid.
Cranfield
According to reports Newark has been disappointing for the last few years. I am not sure that any Show is the best place to buy a gun. You are likely to get better prices and certainly after sales service, from a local Gunshop. Vipa
I was there last year and thought it was awesome. Spent a good day there, loads to see and loads to do! Top day out Edited December 30, 2010 by Vipa
Redgum
Looked around many shows looking for a bargain but yet to purchase a gun from one because have always thought prices not that low. You also have problems if the gun is faulty and the dealer is miles away from you. This could mean many miles of driving or courier fees. That said a mate of mine scours the many shotgun traders on the last day as they are packing up in search of a bargain and he gets the odd good deal but then again hes a trader too. edr
I live in the village next to the showground, the event is one that is enjoyable but I wouldnt buy anthing from it. There's alot of products/dealers but you could look all day and not find anything. If your staying in the area I'd recommend a trip about half an hour to the east. He's not at the show but is a very good gunsmith. I bought a new gold e a few weeks ago for £2000 (knocking £250-300 any body else in the area) and it had hand picked wood from the stock at gmk. Whatever you do ATB. EDR
Bloke
Maybe Newark isn't the best show around, but If nothing else it gives you somewhere that should have a greater range of guns and equipment to try than any single shop. Spend a day trying guns for fit, you might find other alternatives. I went last year looking for my first gun after a 20+ year break, really wanted a Beretta. I must have tried about 50 different combinations of brand, model, barrel length etc etc and found that although the Beretta model I had wanted was a great gun, it didn't fit me as well as some others. I ended up buying my Browning 2 weeks later and I haven't regretted it. As has been said previously here though, be very careful before buying from shows, beware of haste and 'auction fever'. Take someone with you at the very least. I fell in love with a gun that looked and felt brilliant and although I thought I had looked it over well, in my haste to fill the empty slot in my licence, I had completely missed the crack in the stock and the ding in the rib that had both been very well "treated", which my mate spotted and we quickly put the offending article back on the stand and walked away! I have since shot that particular model of gun and they certainly don't fit me as well as my own gun, yet I was convinced on the day. As well as anything else, have a fun day! David BASC
I think its important for all of us to do what we can to support our local dealers, after all if we don't then they won't be around - then we will moan that we have to travel even further to buy cartridges and other bits & bobs! The Newark Shooting show in only in its third , year 1 was great, with fantastic weather. Year 2 -last year, the organisers just about doubled the size of the show but suffered from such bad weather during build up that the show was almost called off the night before it was due to open, and becuase of this there were problems in the morning of day 1, and ground conditions from one hall to another were bad. This year it is all under 1 roof - I hope all goes well, I am looking forward to it. David
J@mes
It was bad year 1, pretty good year 2 and I'm going to miss it this year as I am skiing, which is a shame as it's only 40 mins away. With regards to bargain guns - no, not really. I have found that most of what is on sale seems to be what the sellers can't get rid of at their shop, and to be honest they aren't that much cheaper (if at all) compared to what is available on the interweb. It is great for clothing though as you can try everything on, which always helps. I'd do plenty of research in to prices, specs, wood or whatever before exchanging money as it may not be the bargain you hoped for when you get it home
