Dekers
There are masses to choose from but the most common in the Uk is 1/2" UNF for standard barrels and 5/8 for heavier barrels, in Europe this will often be M14/1 or M18/1 on the heavier barrels. I'm not entirely sure why, but it sounds a fair bet to stick to what the manufacturers commonly do! So 5/8" or M18/1 seems the route! JRDS
My Sako Varmint is cut 18mm, leave as much on as you can so 18mm would be good. Edited January 2, 2011 by JRDS
Paddy Galore!
this will vary according to country of manufacture, the brits and yanks like imperial, the europeans like metric.
bongo321
Thanks all , its voiceing what i thought go for 5/8ths unf , that would be just enough for a thread protector to fit flush with the barell @ 22mm . Are the choices as plentyful in 5/8ths thread ?

Probably a good idea to check with the manufacturer of the Moderator you want before you cut the barrel, but 5/8 shouldn't be a problem, certainly no problem here...... http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/sound_moderators.htm
Paddy Galore!
my win 70 is threaded 5/8 unef for a T8, from what i've been told mod manufacturers can supply in whatever thread size you request.
