Axe
I've just received a call from a farmer who wants a number of Fox cleared for the oncoming lambing season. Most of this will be done with a rifle, but as we go in two's, it makes sense to take the 12g along. So I am just wondering what size and load you guys would recconmend to use for fox? henry d
Minimum weight 42gm,but preferably 50gm+ ,as for shot size 3`s under 25yds and 2,1 or BB out to 40yds.If you can get them,my faves are Winchester XX mag in 2`s it`s a buffered load and patterns like a dream  We are off to the hounds on Friday and I`ll be using 53gm Express in 1`s. Tally Ho!
Axe
Thanks for the advice Henry i'll ask at my local supplier. Can you explain "Buffered Load" please?
henry d
"Buffering"is putting a granular plastic powder in with the shot,in the wad. It`s a special type and there are various ones for different shot type and size. What happens is the shot exits the choke as a fluid but,to all intents and purposes, solid mass. This means that the pattern is held over a longer distance. My old 10 bore was patterned with buffered and normal loads at 40yds,the normal loads were70% ish, which is about right for full choke. The buffered loads were 95% and very even too. The other thing is it stops pellet damage at the choke and is therefore good for the likes of Bis and TM non tox shot.
william
I'd go with BB'S you can't go wrong shorter or longer ranges youv'e got em dead. Regards Terry
Axe
Thanks again Henry, I ceretainly hadnt come accross that anywhere. Are the Winchester XX Mag 2's fairly expensive? and should I think about changing the choke as i'm running the semi on a 1/4 at the moment. My shoulder is feeling it already
Dunkield
I think they are what the proof houses use Axe  That ol' semi should soak that up a treat, think yourself lucky you are not using a 7lb side by side!
henry d
WinchesterXX are a bit expensive but well worth it IMO.I`d also go up to at least 1/2(I use full, but hey thats my choice)and I also use them through a semi and you don`t feel them too much, unlike Mr Todd  It`s the last thing he feels
