roadkill
Just had an email off the estate owner to tell me the shoot is cancelled this weekend but on the plus side he has said if we want to come up and have a crack at the pigeons then we are more than wellcome as in his words there are tons about. What kind of patterns should i be looking at doing ?

proTOM1
have you been putting the rotary between the 2 groups of deeks? Yes dead center just about 5 to 8 yards infront of them tho
yickdaz
thats the key the rotary has to be away from and in front of the decoys; if its to close to the pattern they flare off as they approach;found this out meself through trial and error but its the difference between making it work for yer or turning more birds off than come in
The Essex Hunter
I have the rotary at least 20/25 yards out, with it about 10/15 yards to the left or right, depending on the wind direction. The decoys out around 30/35 yards in a couple of groups either side of the rotary leaving a large gap between the decoys. I use a 30”gun with half and three quarter choke, a 32gram cartridge shot size 6.5 With that set up, I have pattern tested it and found it gives plenty of shot at those distances and further. People do not appear to use their gun to its full potential, birds are shot at so much these days, and getting them to flight in is hard! I use my set up to put some distance between the birds, and me, as no matter how good the hide is made, it has a man with a gun in it.
