Hiya, Another newbie question...regarding my Rizzini 12G o/u...

Today I bought my first box of magnum 3" carts..for my Mossberg pump.....and thought to myself, I'll see if they fit in the Rizzini,as tbh, the chamber looked bigger than a 2.3/4in... well, they do, which sort of amazed me...I looked at the barrels and they are proofed to 1.57tonnes, tho, my Mossberg is proofed to 4 tons.......so, can anyone tell me if that makes it suitable for magnum carts...???

I havent fired any through it yet, just too worried about it all going T***S up...:)

Whoa!!!!!!! Dont put those magnums through your rizzini!!!

LOL, Nope, certainly wont...dinny worry about that one..:)..I'm not that silly....thats why I was asking the question...is there a reason the 3in carts fit into it....and does the load capacity of 1.57 tonnes make it a mag gun???

chamber size is for the fired rolled out case not the unfired crimped size (length), so whilst a 3 inch mag will physically fit in a 2 3/4 chamber (because the unfired 3 inch case will most likely be shorter than 2 3/4 inch) firing a 3 inch through a smaller chamber may well damage the gun or you, so don't try it.

the chamber size will be on the underside of the barrels with the rest of the proof marks, most likely as 12/70 for a 12 bore 70mm (2 3/4 inch) chamber, a 3inch chamber would be 12/76

Also check the proof pressure

if your not sure note the marks down and post them up on here

Not sure you have your numbers down correctly. From memory - standard proof is 3 1/4 tons and magnum is 4 tons.

Hi Guys, Ahhhh, Thats the stuff I needed to know...Righty...on the barrels, they say...CAM70, KG 1.570, so I think I can assume its only a 2.3/4 in chamber..so, NOT a Magnum

My Mossberg does say 4tons on the barrel...thats why I asked the original question...

I knew you guys would know the answer...:)

As already pointed out, manufacturers make their chambers for the opened cartridge, so a 3" mag fits happily into a 2 3/4 ( 70mm) chamber - but if you fire it the chances are the cartridge will partly open into the forcing cone area and cause an excess pressure build up, blowing the side of the chamber off . Its also worth noting that many manufacturers make ALL the chambers for 76mm in manufacture even if the gun is marked and proofed 70mm. This is a safety feature as the technically over length chamber is less likey to blow if an accidental over-length cartridge was used.

So - NEVER go by the measured length of either the cartridge unopen - NOR - the physical length of the chamber.

ALWAYS go by the cartridge manufacturers declared open length on the cart box - and the marked proof length on the gun.

Hiya, Great replies guys, also didnt know about the weight of the barrels being on the gun, more great info....Big learning curve this shotty stuff. :good:

I didnt know that the chamber length came from the open cart...now thats an eductation...and never intended to shoot the Mag carts through the gun...not until speaking to you guys...:)

I've already got some of those 42gr BB's, and 42gr no 3's/4's for the gun... :good: I'll be out tomorrow with them, and I'll just leave the Mags for the Mossberg..:)

Thanks again.:)
