how to get dents out of my wooden stock

Depends how big the dent is and wheather there is any damage to the woods's fibre. Small dents use an iron, as above, bigger dents may need some filling, in that case you can mix some of the wood dust from the stock with wood glue (if you're not sanding the stock you might be able to get some from behind the butt-plate).

I have managed to get a small but really deep dent out using steam, doing it a bit at a time. It even had fiber damage but the end result was not noticeable unless you looked really close.

Light dents and bruising are easy to steam out but if you have a thick varnish finish on the stock the steam cant get to the wood and you might have to strip it and refinish it after you get the dents out.
