SSS
I have got a L reg Sportrak limited, 1.6 EFI which is shocking on fuel. I get about 25 to a gallon at best, the power is low, and the car is just generally lagging. Heres the thing, I used to drive a Peugeot 306 turbo diesel which had gearbox or diff problems. Until I had these problems, the car was running mint and had no other mechanical problems. I still have the 306 sat doing nothing and wanted to know if anyone has attempted, or knows of anyone who has fitted a pug diesel into a sporty. I know you can pretty much put any engine into any car and I am going to do the conversion regardless but do you think I have got a big job on my hands? I read somewhere that a suzuki transfer case fits onto the pug engine, and also bolts onto the sporty gearbox but I dont know how true it is. Please give me any advice you can. I love my sporty but I hate the economy. All the best, Sam.
12borejimbo
Why not sell your sportrak and get a fourtrak, Diesel power and bigger cab/buck. I love mine, loads of power, lifted up and got great tyres on. Always gets looks too. (the menacing ones) haha :yp:
al4x
it won't be simple, best option is to bite the bullet but do everything to make it as economical as possible. Inflate the tyres well, don't carry too much stuff just for the sake of it etc. A fourtrak will improve on economy but not by much the biggest issue is putting a diesel into a petrol isn't easy at all as you would need to change an awful lot of the wiring and it simply is going to cost you far more than just running this. SSS
My biggest worry would be the gearing. If Im doing 70 in the motor as it is, it sits at about 4000rpm which is pretty high revs in the diesel. Im not sure that I will gain much from doing it unless I change the gear ratios. Big wheels and tyres should cure it but Im not sure its going to be worth it. decision time!
