I'm in a similar position to you, looking at getting one, searched this forum and found this interesting thread tho

Pay particular attention to the Hong Kong ebay mention, just had a look and they look VERY similar.

I'm also looking for a scope mounted lamp for my .22lr and my Hmr. Considering the Ledray 700 tactical but what other options would anyone recommend. The scope on my 22 is a 25mm tube and the one on the Hmr is a 30mm tube so i will be swapping the lamp from one rifle to another. Thanks in advance for any advice

Hi, When you consider tne calibres and their effective ranges that you mentioned and the differing scope tube diameters, you may just have pinpointed your best option. Have a shufti at the spec. for the Clulite Masterlite Supreme. I think you'll find it meets your requirements and is backed by a company that is well established and reliable.

Any buts? Yep, for crying out loud, don't lose the scope/torch mount - see "whatever you do ...." topic on this sub forum.

I have just added a LEDRAY Tactical 400 to my rifle, I am out with it this evening so I will post a quick update/review tomorrow.

One thing that I will say already and it may annoy the hell out of me is the fact that the filters are held in place with a screw ring and do not flip up. Basically you use it with filter on or off as it's not easy to swap in the filed, that said though I have a hand held lamp anyway so I guess i'll use the scope mounted lamp with filer......

Will be intersted to see how it performs for you Bradders. I'm trying to decide between the Ledray 700 or the Clulite Masterlite Supreme. (see my earlier post) That said if the Ledray 400 performs ok i might just go for that one. What rifle are you putting it on?. I want a scope mounted light to swap between my Hmr and 22lr.

OK, Guys,

There's loads of choices, so we can afford to be critical.

Just had a first impressions look at the Clulite. The beam "appears" to be good and as advertised but would need a proper assessment in the field. As you'd expect from Clulite, build quality is good except for one potentially critical area which may, however, just apply to this one example. On the remote control the "plug" end of the cable is not properly secured in as much as you can see the end of the cable sleeve and the individual wires. This usually spells premature cable failure unless corrected. Other than that, all looked good so someone doing a field check would be handy.

Cheers

LedRay Tactical 400.....

Well managed to get out last night with the LedRay Tactical 400. This is mounted on my 10/22......

All in all the lamp has a good solid feel about it and build quality is very good, also comes with a full set of filters (red, green, blue and amber) remote switch, two batteries, charger, carry pouch etc.

It has four settings, low/dim, medium, full and strobe. The setting is changed by twisting the lense cap back and forth. Fiddly until you get the knack of it. As said in a earlier post the filters are held in place by a silver screw ring that means they are either fitted or not. No flip up capability here although the filters can be changed in about 30 seconds.

White light, well it is very bright and intence and certainly illuminated well out to over 120 metres, beyond that I cant really tell because of the mist caused me "white out" altought it did light up the trees at 150+ metres away but I could not really establish how usable the light was at that distance......

Using the red filter did reduce the effective ranges of the lamp although it still worked well on 22lr distances. It also illuminated some eyes at 100+ metres through the mist.

All in all i am pleased with it after 1 outing but if I had given it more thought I may well have gone for a lamp that had flip up filters....On a positive note, it is light, compact and does provide a very bight beam. For the distances I shoot with the 22lr it is more than capable.

Excellent review Carl. Thanks. Think that helps me make my mind up. My shooting bud Katzenjammer is going for the ledray 400. I think i might push the boat out a little and go for the 700. Just for a little more usable light really as i intend to use it on the HMR as well as the 22lr. Cheers :good:

Hi,

Mine arrived today. Neatly boxed. Built quality good - the remote cable plug end is secured with a tailed grommett so no problem there. Quite surprised by the quality of the threads - neatly cut with no sign of any swarf.

On the face of it, this looks tasty and can't wait to give it a go once the batteries are charged.

One point though; the full power run time is such that a spare set of rechargesble batteries may well prove prudent.

For the LedRay 400 the run times as stated in the little booklet are:

High Mode = 400 lms = 4 hours

Medium Mode = 140 lms = 12 hours

Low Mode = 10 lms = 150 hours

Strobe Mode = 400 lms = 4 hours

Not run it for long enough to drain yet....But I was out for 2+ hours Wednesday and it was still burning bright, although I was fiddling with high, medium, low & strobe.....so not really a controlled environment to be an effective test.

Hope this helps, i would be interested to know how the 700 performs......

What is the run time on full power? I seem to remember reading that it was quite good. You get a set of non-rechargeable batteries with the package which i suppose you could take with you in case the rechargeable ones went down :hmm:

ATB Pat

Hi,

The package arrives with the torch in "standard" format which takes the 3 non rechargeable batteries enclosed.

The enclosed extension tube permits full power usage with the 2 rechargeable batteries also enclosed. In this format you need to buy one more of the non rechargeable batteries to operate the torch.

Duration is 1.5hrs for high (and strobe) mode (700), 7.5hrs for medium (which I'm hoping will do as a "spotting" mode) (120) and 90hrs for low (8).

I assume these figures relate to the rechargeable/4 off non-rechargeable usage and that the standard format will be less. Also assume that as the voltage is regulated, the power output from both is the same but of a shorter duration for the standard. Two ways to find out, and I may just try the other and whizz off an e-mail and ask.

Cheers

Edit - Bored - stuck indoors waiting for a delivery have e-mailed, will post answer.

2nd Edit - Have answer and the guy's been honest. To avoid a load of waffle and ifs and buts, yep, the second assumption is valid. Duration is difficult to pin down, but as you'd expect, the 3 battery time will be (all is ish) 75% of the full power. It is difficult to be more precise due to the various battery power levels - often the rechargeabe don't compare too well - the ones here are 2600s but I know that 2900s are available but are quite pricey for very little increase in power.

Consequently, I guess it's a case of suck it and see starting from about 1.5 hours on full power with the rechargeables or 4 others.

Thanks guys for the info. Very helpful. :good:

Hi, Pat.I hope Bradders sees this and comments.

Took the 700 out last night just for a quick shufti. Now, let me say straightaway that there was some mist so I'll have to have another look when it's clear. Never-the-less, I have to say the torch didn't produce a beam so much as lighting the county to a Toc H standard. I noted what you said about your intended use and with a filter, particularly red, I'd be a tad concerned about maximum LR use, let alone HMR. Also, it must be said that even though it's not supposed to make a difference, I only used the 3 batteries.

I will try again when it's clear and will also try the full power configuration to do a fair assessment. However, at the moment the 250m beam plastered all over the box is at risk from advertising standards.

Suggest making haste slowly.

Cheers
