adam f
Guys, I'm looking at buying an 8x56 Nikko Nighteater to sit on my new CZ455 Thumbhole - what mounts can I get away with / what mounts do you suggest? It's a 30mm body - will medium mounts work or will I need to go with high ones? Thanks
al4x
get a variable scope 8x56 is ok but not great, should fit on medium mounts though
adam f
Really? Ive been doing my head in trying to decide! The other one Ive been considering is the 3-12x56 Nighteater - but as I intend the use the HMR for bunnies only I liked the idea of just point and shoot - no faffing, no adjustments? al4x
get the 6-24 nighteater, you can put it at 8x if you want and still point and shoot but it gives you options. A mate has the one with the IR and that seems pretty handy on bunnies
steve42
Had a 6-24x56 IR nighteater on a .223 i changed it for a 8x56 nighteater (which i s also an IR with milldot ret)and find it a much clearer scope i love it fantastic on the lamp, had medium mounts on mine and were fine Edited February 11, 2011 by steve42
activeviii
yep, medium mounts will be fine. i have the nighteaters on a few of my rifles and they fit just, i had to sand the bottom of the flip up as it was a little to tight on the tikka t3 but it works fine. adam f
Ended up with a 6-24x56 Nighteater - went in to get the 8x56 but ended up with a deal on a 6-24x56 with rings - the downside is that the rings dont fit the 11mm rail on the cz... so need a set of them now - but yes they are medium and the scope just fits! al4x
you won't regret it, an 8x56 is ok on a stalking rifle but not ideal on small quarry, since putting a variable on my .223 its been so much easier to shoot at range on small quarry

My advice (for what it's worth) - go for something simple with no sidewheel I had an MTC Viper 6-32X60 (Top scope I must say) on my Hmr but spent more time faffing about focusing it then I did actually using it  I sold it and bought a Hawke 3-12X56 Eclipse with the L4 Dot Ret - Awesome in fact I like it so much I bought another for my Tikka .223 It's down to personal preference when it comes to scopes some swear by top quality glass on their rifles others, like me, settle for decent quality
Luckyshot
I have the 6-24-56 Nighteater on a few of my rifles and they all do what they are suppose to. They are not the best scope in the world but for the money you cant go wrong. Both of these scopes are the illuminated milldot versions. The longest range shot on the HMR was 184yds on 12x mag under the lamp, so good enough in my opinion. adam f
Yeah I'm quite pleased with it - as you say it's not a S&B but does the HMR warrant such a scope? Anyway - had to go with high mounts - mediums were just too tight. It works fine anyway - christened it with a bunny today.

Pleased with the 6-
