stupidsalmon
I have read on the BASC website that you are not required to keep your cartridges locked up but must not lock them up with your shotty in its cabinet. Do you think it'd be ok to keep any cartridges locked up in a small money box to save me having to spend £50+ on a proper cartridge safe?? rarms
I don't think there are ANY stipulations on what you can and can't do with shotgun cartridges. You don't need a certificate to own them so there is no special care to be taken with them with regard to storage, I think the firearms guidelines say they should be out of sight or something along those lines. It is good sense to keep them seperate under lock and key though I guess to prevent both gun and ammo falling into the wrong hands.
rarms
Ammunition 19.36 As a matter of best practice, ammunition for section 1 firearms should be kept secure apart from the firearm. Although secure storage of shot gun cartridges is not a requirement of the Firearms Acts, it is sensible to recommend that these should be locked away for both security and safety, especially where there are children in the house. Taken from: Firearms Law Guidance to the Police 2002 There may be more modern guidelines in place now but I doubt it
dunganick
i dont think i know anyone apart from gun shops who have their shotgun shells stored in a safe. We keep ours all over the place, study, landing, game bag. But all of them inside a locked and alarmed house.
