stevewall968
After 4 years of sporting shooting I find myself stuck firmly in the mid to late 60's per 100, and that's on a good day. :( I practice loads but feel that my practice is just grooving in bad habits and I totally lack any sort of consistency. I am desperate to improve and have finally come to the conclusion that I need some professional help. I have seen various posts recommending Carl Bloxham and one or two others. However, most of these guys are miles away from me where I live in Bromley, Kent. I am looking for someone more local so that I can take a series of short 1 hour type lessons. Is that a good idea, or would I get more out of a half/full day with someone like Carl Bloxham, Steve(Longridge SG) or Brian(beretta)? Does anyone have any experience of a good coach in the Kent/Surrey/Essex area? Steve
seeker
nearer you have West Kent Shooting School: amongst a range of others. Though both specialise in gunfitting too. It may be that a couple of short sessions to get the basics rock solid and sort any 'habits' would put you in a good position to get the most out of a half or full day... Also you get time to practice between classes and build your consistency?

boarder
Last summer I had a couple of lessons with Mick Meggs at West Kent shooting school. I don't think the instructors are exclusive to the shoot grounds, and you can book them through Dartford and Northall for example. I found the lessons with Mick to be most helpful. He has set me on the way to mastering my bogey birds by changing my gun mount to shoot gun down on crossers, and correcting my negative swing. He was also a really good laugh to be out on the course with.
Treestalker
I'd travel up and have a day with Carl Bloxham. He's the best instructor I've met for Sporting. A surprising number of top names travel to him for help with particular targets.
stevewall968
Well, through the forum I managed to hook up with a really nice guy called Richard Weller from http://www.fieldandclay.co.uk/. I had an hours session with him yesterday at Southdown Shooting Club which started at 10 and finished at two. I shot over 200 targets and sampled virtually every stand. Richard's approach and style is very relaxed but firm when he wants to get his point across. I shot with a lot of confidence and had a great day out He clearly enjoys his shooting because he was prepared to bear with me for 4 hours in some pretty cra**y weather conditions and yet still only wanted the fee for an hours tuition, what's more he never fired a single cartridge all day. Richard's a top bloke in my opinion and by far the best VFM that I have ever received from such a session. I will be going back I know in a few months time when I have had sufficient opportunity to practice some of his tips/advice. In the meantime if any of you in the SEast are looking for some help with your shooting then I would thoroughly recommend giving Richard a call for a chat. Field and Clay
Steve Thanks for your comments, we had to stay out to dry off. I am a freelance instructor in the South East if anyone would like to meet up. Richard Field and Clay
