I read on shootclay website that if you have a strong insect repellent on your hands or face you can take the top layer of varnish or wood oil off a stock in an instant. We are covered in Horse Flies this year down on our farm in Hastings. My mums 30 stable livery yard, and the dairy herd of cattle next door they are bloody everywhere. Don't where anything red. If I stop the Honda quad and step away from it and look back it is instantly covered in Horse flies. My only other tip is if you're a smoker. I got bitten once and an old boy I was with lit up his embassy number 1, took a drag, and then held the red hot bit really close to the bite. It was really uncomfortable. Within a few minutes the bite had pretty much gone. He said it was to do with the bite leaving a big shot of protein and the heat breaking it instantly down. Don't know the science, but it worked!

I read a recipe for fermenting horse hoof. We have a livery stables so getting hold of it wouldn't be a bother.

Thanks. It is a brilliant set up. I already have another great set up in .308 and really want to add a pulsar trail thermal scope to the top of my .223 for foxing. So decided this is the best kit to sell to fund it.

The last few years have been very barren on our place down near Hastings, East Sussex. Not this year though. They're everywhere. Its like watership down out there.

I did the very same in Lloyds and they responded with "wow, we don't get many of these as ID but it's definitely allowed as one of the most trusted forms of ID"

I had the same experience there when I went for a shoot with my Cousin. We ended up shooting about 20 clays. Nothing was working properly on the few sporting traps they had. We jumped in the car and headed up to Humberside shooting ground, where we had a fantastic afternoon.

Yeah it was mine. I wanted exactly that, a more upright shooting position, but unfortunately it just didn't work out for me. I had a really ill fitting beretta 682 gold e, and was struggling to improve. So when I got the CG it fitted me perfectly, but just didn't shoot the style of shooting I'd grown up with. I changed to a Browning 725 and haven't looked back.

How are you getting on with that gun Mr C? I had the same gun. I still think it was one of the nicest guns to shoot, and looks awesome. I could not hit a bloody thing with it though. You didn't buy it second hand in Sussex Guns did you?

We feel the same, and a couple of years ago one of the teams could only field 5 shooters, all because it was a Saturday. Yet still every year we get asked to keep doing them on a saturday.

I would have thought that has absolutely nothing to do with the RFU though. T-shirt is some awful cheap knock off without any official branding on it whatsoever. You just have to look at the layout of it to see its done to not infringe any brand or copyright law. The RFU were hurt by filming a Nike advert a couple of years ago in preparation for a grandslam, that Ireland stopped England winning. They wouldn't do it again.

I always check in on this thread as it most closely resembles the shoot I want mine to be. My Dad ran a small clay shoot on our family farm for over 30 years, it's your typical strawbailer that was mainly shot in 2 squads using 4 manual traps. When I moved back home after 6 years working in Switzerland I took up clay shooting, mainly just to hang out with the old man on a Sunday morning. As more and more of the running came down to me I soon realised with small but gradual improvements we had the scope to be a better clay shoots. The shoot has never had the investment of one of us being able to throw a lump of money at it. All improvements are hard fought, buy saving the shoot kitty to get us what we need. All money is ploughed back into the club. 3 months ago we became an open 50 bird shoot, self buttoning, with auto traps. Hopefully as word gets out and more people come we will be able to improve more quickly. I will keep the shoot at 50 birds bar special occasions. This year for instance we were in the kent and sussex clubman league which needed us to put on a 70 bird shoot. Before I extend the shoot i'll improve the access route across the field and maybe look to get a small shed/cabin up there. Maybe bacon butties will entice a few more. One thing I won't become is an actual members club for now. The shoot operates on working farmland and as such is open to change at short notice. Becoming a club gives other people a say on what you do with your own land. Keep up the good work, Webber. Just shows what a bit of grit and determination can achieve.

Went there for the first time last year with my Cousin and we had a thoroughly good time. Loads and loads of targets at a very reasonable rate. I thought it was great.

Where abouts in Sussex are you, spandit? Our family farm is on the outskirts of Hastings. A bloke used to come with his metal detector on our land and was pretty successful.
