deeksofdoom
My 3 year old springer bitch is expecting for the 1st week in April. I'm in the process of getting ready for the birth. I'm looking for plans for a whelping box or some tips on making the whelping box. Any help would be appreciated.
pegleg31
if you build one yourself make sure you fix some poles around 100mm from the floor and 150mm from all edges to stop your bitch from lying on the pups and killing them
al4x
a friend uses a load of the 40 mm waste plumbing pipe round her whelping box, dead easy as you can get it anywhere and all the clamps and angled bends can be made up simply. Gives enough room to stops the pups being squashed if you have it approx 80-100mm off the floor
ian_in_the_midlands
I do not pretend to be an expert, but we bred a litter of lurchers a few years ago, and this is the whelping box I made. No plans I am afraid, but hope the picture gives you some ideas. 4 pieces of melamine board and some scrap wood. I sat the box on a piece of lino so that it could easily be wiped clean. Be careful if using a heat lamp - they can get very hot. I also set up a web cam so that I could keep an eye on the pups from work. Good luck!!
