gibby
Got round to picking up the new gun yesterday... a .243 Tikka T3 Hunter with a S&B 8x56 30mm Hungarian.. looks and feels the dogs nuts.. Am going out to sight him up this weekend, and will be roe buck stalking as soon as April comes round. I was stuck between the laminated and this, but now i am glad and feel i made the right decission. Cheers Gibby

miffy
Just a thought but is the rifle loaded !!!! Tiz a bit difficult to tell wether a rifle is loaded or not when the bolt is closed. :*) Edited March 10, 2006 by miffy

miffy
To clarify nothing was in the mag or up the spout.Gibby I guessed that and i'm not having a dig.. i just think that the bolt should be open at ALL times unless you are ready to shoot. The rifle would have to be treated as if it were loaded as the bolt is closed. Enjoy

BUT.... you are right, there's no getting away from it. I wasn't having a dig but i think it is good practise to leave the bolt in the open position, i know of someone who actually discharged a firearm in his house as he had "accidentally" left it loaded. (kenzie knows the cocky tw*t) accidents can and do happen!!!!!!
Dunkield
Nice tool Gibby, you won't go far wrong with that mate. How do you find the versapod? or haven't you had a chance to try it yet?
gibby
It's the one i use for my rimmy but i used it on the weekend for sighting it in... did the job fine, but as most of my roe shooting is going to be from a high seat its coming straight off for now. I find it does come loose at times so im going to be getting a harris for the stalking. Gibby Edited March 14, 2006 by gibby
Browning
Excellent choice Gibby, I have the same model. I'd be interested to hear how you get on with your scoping in, and which ammo/load you find works well.
gibby
I was only trying the load that has been recommended, its federal powershok 100grain. I do wish to try a few lighter bullets though to see what it feels like, am thinking of picking up a few boxes of 70 grains for foxes... But as for sighting in no problems at all... Started off with a box placed at 30 yards got him bang on there moved it back to 60 and then back to 100 yards, was taking one shot then adjusting, trying to save a bit of money after the purchase ended up using 11 rounds so not bad... but after that i used another box shooting at cans filled with water, makes some mess of them with the can ending up another 20 yards down the field, shreded into 3 parts. But below is the picture of my target at 100 yards, excuse shot 3, pulled it just a little... :*) but apart from that its shooting perfect. Shot 5 1cm low and 1cm left @ 100 yards, will be testing my grouping this weekend. Gibby Edited March 14, 2006 by gibby

Browning
Gibby, I run Federal PowerShok 100grn soft points as well, very good for a factory load, and good brass for reloading. I also run Federal V-Shok 70grn ballistic tip for foxes. Excellent round, do the job very very well.
