Dave T
Hi all, Has anyone on here shot on the Isle of Man? I'll be going over there for the TT races and I'm thinking of taking one of my guns with me - just thinking about transportation on the ferry, storage, ammo purchase etc. Cheers Dave
100milesaway
There is certainly a couple of grounds on the island as they put a team in usually for the home internationals, with some quite good shooters in the team. It shouldn't be a problem taking the guns across on the ferry but they may not want you to take cartridges with you as well.Check with the ferry company first though. I've taken my guns to Northern Ireland and also to southern Ireland but as the Isle Of Man is the UK it shouldn't be a problem. As you probable know the Island will be chocker that week and i would try to get someone at one of the gun clubs over there to put them in their cabinet for you. from Auntie. :yes:Enjoy the TT. MartynGT4
There's definately a ground or two there, I was shooting with someone this Sunday who shoots on the Isle of Man regularly. He takes his gun over but seem to remember he said he bought carts over there, which seems about right to me. Anyway, give the ferry company a call and see what their thoughts are etc.
Alex C
I have a mate who lives over there who shoots, i visited him and shot there in september. From what he told me there are 2 clubs. One of them is pretty new and seems the better equiped with sporting layouts, DTL etc. I believe they spent a fortune on this just before the Commonwealth games I shot at the smaller club which was right on the coast by a sewage works. Nice little club but set up for Skeet and Trap only. Ranks as one of the most friendly clubs i have ever shot at. Really nice bunch of guys. Hope you have a nice time as its a lovely island Alex

Dave T
Thanks for all the feedback guys I've gone to the TT every year since the early 80's (except 2001) and, whilst I enjoy the racing and the IoM itself is fantastic, I've seen the social/events side die off completely over the years and I'd rather shoot. This is the first year that I've not taken my bike (ill health)so I thought I'd take my gun in the car. Security's not a problem as my mate that I stay with is an RFD I'll have a think about it and decide later in the year Thanks again Dave
