Applying cold blue to screwcut

Having just had my .243 cut down to 18" I'm now keen to blue the thread before it rusts. To do so I have a couple of questions.

First off, in the past I've used Meths to degrease the metal. Are there any household products that are better? Acetone nailvarnish remover was what I was thinking, but any other ideas would be great too.

Second, can I just dip the end of the rifle in the cold blue? It seems like the easiest way to do it but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to blue the inside of the barrel?!

If anyone's done this before I'd be very grateful to hear of your experiences. :good:

I don't know is the answer, but sounds iffy to coat the internal barrel?

Do you have a problem with rust, ALL my rifles are threaded, only about half factory cut, and I have no rust problems! :hmm::good:

Neil,

Why not cork the barrel end? Gives you an excuse to dispose of a bottle of plonk too! Cut the cork down and shove it in then cut it flush, you'll be able to push it out with rods after the procedure.

Regards,

Gixer

Ps- any sign of the brass yet?

Any degreaser will do,ie-washing up liquid/sugar soap etc. :good:

DO NOT JUST DIP END INTO CONTAINER,inside of barrell will rust, you need to seal tube first, say with cling film twisted into end, then apply bluing and wash off WITHIN 3 minutes, buff, apply barricade and LEAVE then after a few days you can apply oil,if you oil to soon it wont have proper protection as it doesnt react with the air, make sure you follow instructions on container, when its all done i would apply some copper grease to the thread ;)
