hato hot shot
went on some new ground the other week ie rape field with a nice spinny in the middle! everything looked great when we turned up few birds on the move mild wind and overcast. Off we trot to get set up and once within 150 meters of the spinny up from there roosts they whent about 600 or so birds here we go i thought! how wrong could i have been. set the hide up on the edge of the spinny wind of our backs and 20 shells and rotary at the head of patteren. we sat for a hour before any sign of a bird then at least 100 came over all at once but not 1 came in to the pattern! i thought it was the rotary so down it came it wasnt! birds were over us quite regulary but the just were not playing ball. i tried everthing reduce the siz of pattern, spruced up the hide, even tried the rotary on its own but still the same birds wright over head but just not coming in. If any one could shed some light on this please feel free as i plan on shoting there again tommorw

yickdaz
i;ll bet they will decoy tomorrow if nobody has shot at them recently.. wind is in the right direction and strong. as pro tom said last few weeks we have had east winds and they do struggle to come to decoys when an east wind blows. Funny that , the old sea fishing saying was "wind from the east fish bite the least" have we got to make up a term for pigeon shooting in an easterly wind now ? retromlc
i was shooting yesterday and had 30 shells out plus 2 hypaflaps on floaters, pigeons kept jinxing, had managed to get 3 but same thing they were not really commiting,so pulled in the hypaflaps and they started coming in ,decoying properly, weird, maybe they have seen to many "devices" and are a bit wary
JonnyR
Could be the rape. I'm finding they are just not interested in it - roost shot a few last night and they were full of ivy berries, clover or seed from drillings. The rape around my way is too tall now - I think they find it bitter once it is beyond the early stages. Good luck.
