Billy.
Typical Defender fashion, my front reg decided to part with the car somewhere between Harpenden and St Albans... Moer than likely going through the ford. Anyway, I've ordered a new one, but I am worried I'll get points if I drive without it until the new one arrives. Kind of need the car, so it's not a case of just waiting for the new one to arrive. Anyone know how much trouble you can get in? Land Rovers, eh
pegleg31
Can't you just write it down clear on a piece of card and place it in the front windscreen? Edited March 12, 2011 by pegleg31
Mungler
Just act surprised when plod pull you and act concerned that it maybe someone planning to do a petrol station fill up and drive off. Plenty of number plates get nicked from round my way - there would be no point nicking plates from Liverpool, as no cars up there are registered, tax or insured Incidentally I understand that if there's something wrong with your car number plate, tax or insurance then the auto number recognition thing at the petrol station will shut the pump down. Billy.
Haha, that would be funny. I'll get a tannoy announcement. Gives the people in the petrol station something to do, as all they ever seem to do is talk on the station landline to their mates back home. Edited March 12, 2011 by Billy. Devon Fox
Just act dumb if stopped - the worse scenario I would think would be being issued with a producer (as long as the rest of the LR straight!!!) Billy.
I have ordered a new one online, so it'd be a waste of money to go and get another made. I'll just play dumb. I did pass two coppers on the way home and niether turned round, so it's either not easy to spot or not worth the hassle.

paul041075
It is illegal to alter or deface a number plate (ie moving the position, size, font etc) but not illegal if there is no number plate!!! Yes it sounds bizarre but thats the legalities. However it is the law that you have to have number plates and display them! Confused yet?? Learnt all this when I imported a car from Japan, to get it registered I had to get it MOT'd. The MOT station argued they could not MOT it without number plates until I made them read the rule book and they rung there tech support people / VOSA. They then MOT'd it by the VIN plate so I could apply for a UK registration. So get another number plate and save the arguement, just remember you need ID and vehicle log book to get one. You get them for a about a fiver at trade places or you can loose your shirt at Halfrouds! I'm sure there will be a barage of comments now!

Billy.
Found it as I drove through the ford this evening Must've missed it the first time. Thanks all for your help. I'll have to find some better cableties to hold it on this time.
