Ferretboy111
Hello all; Whilst checking my snares and traps the other morning I was down by the river when I noticed a pair of dark ducks flying out from a pollarded ash tree in a nearby field. They are certainly nothing ive ever seen before. The undersides were of a white colour and they were fairly dark on top. They were fairly distant from me so other features were limited. Although they made a very soft quack quack sound. Im based in the midlands- the ducks were smaller than mallard. Any ideas? Im presuming they are finding a nesting site. Many thanks A

Whitebridges
Sawbills nest in trees. Red-breasted Merganser, unlikely. Escapees - wood duck?
gixer1
Most ducks will nest in trees!! Although with black on top and White below I would say goldeneye possibly.... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldeneye_(duck) Regards,
