roughshooter
I am looking to reload some bismuth or ITM 3" shells for the coming season and am wondering if anyone has had experience of the lee loadall for 3" shells? Is the final crimp satisfactory on new cases or do I need to go down the mec jr route? Regards Graham
seeker
Whilst I haven't loaded 3" or non tox on the Lee, the final crimp unit works well ... the tube is case length specific, but can be shortened. The Meccrimper does the same job but can be a fiddle. A mate hand loads some cases and uses an old crimp unit to close them
coneyhunter
both the originL lEE loadall and the newer Load all 2 can be accomodated for 3 inch shells, although not having reloaded 3 inchers myself i know that full instructions are included on how to do so with the prouduct. fuzrat
why not load them up on the loadall then RTO them? as its non tox I assume you wont be doing that many and hand closing them will get a really good finish. cheaper to buy a RTO tool than a new loader if the lee doesnt cut the mustard. fruitloop
the lee will produce a good crimp on new cases if you have the right colum hight if useing once fired cases make shure the crimp is in line with thestar crimp or it will not fold it corectly Edited March 20, 2011 by fruitloop
roughshooter
I have an old lee loadall which is marked 2 3/4" cases only. I have been using this for some paper cases 2 1/2" shells loaded with pyrodex and then loaded with shot from the lee and then finished off in an old rto machine. I have ordered a new mk2 lee and some 3" cases so will have a go with both the lee and the rto although I am not sure my old hawksley rto machine will hold a 3" shell but time will tell. One way or another I will get it sorted. I will also research buffered loads - anyone got a link for some info on this?
