SpicyandJack
So today i managed a number of firsts about which i am very happy. 1. First Shots fired on new permission (small 43 acre one next to my house) 2. First shots fired at live quarry from new Benelli Comfort 3. First use of Hull Sterling Game cartridges (thanks for the recommend Rob) 4. First shot ever fired at live quarry and i got my first ever Crow. Then went on to take some shots at various pigeons who mostly laughed stuck two fingers up at me and flew off, still went home very happy. Apologies for the obvious newbie post but it was a good short outing!

The Duncan
Excellent post and I'm pleased you had a good sortie. Better still you bagged your crow (and no doubt saved a few songbirds eggs/nestlings I'm pretty new to shotgunning and empathise with your enthusiasm. Keep it up! FalconFN
Well done, and geat feeling to get something on your first outing. BTW, I can't make out if it's a rook or a crow, it seems to have the pale beak and low forehead of a rook but the beak feathers of a crow?? Bleeh
Well done, and geat feeling to get something on your first outing. BTW, I can't make out if it's a rook or a crow, it seems to have the pale beak and low forehead of a rook but the beak feathers of a crow?? It's a Rook, the beak is the tell-tale sign, (unless I'm very much mistaken) Crows never have patchy grey beaks like rooks, but young rooks do indeed have black beaks like crows. At first sight I thought it was a rook but the beak feathers say crow, it's possible that it had dry mud on it's beak?

SpicyandJack
Thanks all I couldn't decide if it was a rook or a crow either I plumbed for crow but hey what do I know? I spent ages studying google images of the two so I didn't look like a numpty on my first kill post! Will get round to putting a pic of my Benelli Comfort on here when I get the chance. Hoping to go out again Friday morning. Edited March 16, 2011 by SpicyandJack
