Scirocco shotguns

I'm looking to get a good second hand gun for around the £400 mark. A local dealer has offered me a 1 year old Scirocco O/U, 30 inch barrels, 3 inch chamber with a full set of multi chokes - all in a presentation case. He's also offering me £50 worth of extras included in the price. I've looked on the net but cannot find much info on these guns other than they appear to have been made by Lu Mat in Italy for Frankonia in Germany - or is it the other way round? Anyway - I'd appreciate any input/info on this gun from someone who has knowledge or experience of them?

I would have thought for around the £400 mark you could have quite choice of shotguns. I would avoid one if you don't know much about it. It could well go on for years, but then again it might not.

Try as many guns as you can and find one which feels right.

Cheers

These seem to be in Danish but perhaps you can translate.

Not a lot about them in the english speaking sites BUT from what i can gather they dont seem that bad.

If at all weary try looking about and see what else you can turn up

I found a AYA Yeoman M/C for a little over £200 in great working order and the extra chokes were £80 for a full compliment of 4

I also got the Rizzini for £200 on the nose

You MAY want to take a look here

They have a fair bit in the £400 price range

most of these shotguns come form turkey i was in the gun trade and used to import quiet a lot of guns from there especially escort which aren't bad guns

but for a bit more i would stick to a european auto like beretta benelli fabarm

browning winchester and bit more but is more hassel free and last longer and thats what counts in the field

Guys, thanks for your replies. The one I've been offered is a nice gun and fits me well but I am not sure about the price and feel it's a bit high - even given the freebies thrown in. It's a side by side that I've had for 30 years that I'm retiring and as a result i know little about O/U's. This one I'm being offered seems to have a little lateral movement (side to side) between the stock end and the barrel end. Not a large movement but definitley something. Is this to do with the construction of an O/U or is it to do with wear and tear?

  • 2 months later...

:yp: Well my renewed shotgun licence came at long last - 11 1/2 weeks! FLO said they would have their bit done within the fortnight - that was on March 9th - what the heck have the others who deal with it been doing since then?

Anyway - went ahead and bought the scirrocco - lovely gun - fits well and seems in good nick overall apart from the choke threads needing a good clean out. 30 inch barrels have a nice balance to them and the gun mounts well. :/

As my other gun is some 30 years old, I'm not really up to date with all the changes in proof marking and wonder if some ofm you can help me out?

The markings are as follows:-

CAM .70 (am I right in thinking this is equivelent to 2 3/4inch chamber?)

18.4 (I have no idea what this is in relation to!)

KG 1.590 (Can handle magnums?)

U7 (No idea)

BU - this is in a box.

Any help would be appreciated folks.
