Shopping for guns

POA is about importers laying out minimum advertising prices to the retailer. For the best deal on anything you have to be f2f and real serious about doing the deal " now if the price is right". nobody wants you to walk out the shop with your money, though remember there is more to a good deal than the money- service costs ask what will they do if you break it? can you try one out somewere? can they generally service this gun or does it need sending away? Buying shotguns its always worth looking at the second hand rack and the realy good finds rarely last more than a Saturday- at least not when i walk in

I know some shops that will let me take a used gun out to try it and i know others who won't even let me look very closely at a gun, guess were i am mostly spending my money :good:

NickP, I'll have a look in Gilsan at Leyburn tomorrow. I'm on the A1 passing, so will see what Winchesters they have in. I think they are a dealer???

What did you think, did you find anything?

I got a email from them, then rang them to discuss it, mention that i was waiting on my SGC and he said he had somebody from our neck of the woods in today looking also in same situation ;)

Had a good chat, said he would be able to order me in a Energy and price was reasonable too, going to re look at the Energy i have seen at York, and then go straight up to Leyburn to compare the energy with the topcote2 and seen if it justified the extra money, (i think it does) and then place my order, but with work and holidays it will be a week or two anyway and hopefully my sgc will be in hand by then :)

That'll be me then!!

I discussed quite a lot with him; he had the Beretta in I am wanting, but was at top price. He was prepared to knock £50 off and I asked him if he would hold it till my SGC came through, no problem he said. But, he still wanted £1300 for it, I feel I could find it for less elsewhere. Swillington will be my next stop!

They have a couple of Winchesters in, he said the SX3 Semi-Auto was a fantastic bit of kit for the money. But, he did say that had returned 3 guns to Winchester that had the Topcote finish. He said the problem with Topcote was that when it take a ding, it blooms, like taping varnish with a nail. He said it tends to be around the forend quite a bit as taking it on and off and catching it. Once it scratches, it is virtually impossible to repair and if you do, it never looks the same.

Nice enough guy though and would have no issues dealing with them. Happy to get the guns out and let you handle them. :good:

Good to know, he seem nice and helpful on the phone and did say the topcote is near on impossible to repair, which is the issue i have with it and the reason i am more towards the energy

re Swillington, i'm not sure if swillington has the silver pig 1 in as i think he has sold it, but i'm sure he said £1250 when i first went in,

the last time i was there he said a good berretta was the White Onyx which he had in stock,

I saw that today, bit to shiny for my liking. But, I did ask him which was the better of the two, his view was the new Silver Pig. He could have said the Onyx as he had a couple of those, but he didn't. Thats one of the reasons I liked chatting to him, he wasn't trying to push me down the route of a particular gun just because they had a few in stock.

I told him how much I wanted to spend and he said new Silver Pig was the gun to have.

£1250 is really the area I want to be in, as I would like to spend another £300 on a secondhand semi. :good:

Most of the gun trade is owned/ran by people who didn't grow up with computers, let alone email and i suspect most of them just put an email address on their sites because 'you have to these days' but they have no intention of ever using it

As others have said, its got to be F2F or over the telephone. Give it 30 years or so and the industry might have finally caught up with the 2011 times
