Pillar Bedding

A friend who is a top top Engineer has just Pillar Bedded his Sako .243 (with wood stock) he even turned out the pillars. Anyway after re zero he is getting a 3 shot group @ 120 yards all holes touching which is very impressive. He is a top shot anyway and was looking to get more consistent results.

So couple of questions without debating the old if your killing cleanly with a factory set up why bother……………

Have we noted significant improvement after Pillar bedding, did you do it yourself or get the job done. Are results better with wooden stocks or as good with a laminate stock. If you have a heavyweight varmit barrel will it make much difference

Thank you..........

Is it an expensive job to get done? :good:

But not if you do it yourself, it's easier than you'd think, it's all in the prep work an checking and double checking everything before bedding compound goes in.

I've just done mine even tho it would shoot ragged holes @ 100yds if I do my bit but getting it bedded will take out any inconsistency in the movement between barrel, action and stock.

I didn't do mine to make groups smaller but just to try and make it shoot more consistent.

True, most of the accuracy will be achieved with homeloads for the particular rifle,

I have seen a few people apply bedding compound the full length of tikka an sako synthetic stocks along with pillars as it will help to stiffen the stock up an not compress but it will add a bit o weight the the rifle.

Devcon cost £40 pillars you can make or buy for about £20 so not too expensive to give it a go yourself

What's there to **** up?

You take your time an do it properly then it's easy, plenty of people do it themselves.

Do you think gunsmiths are born able to do it or something???

An it's not irreversible at all if you got the tools an time for it
