New to pigeon shooting!

Recommended Posts

1: Permission to shoot somewhere

2: Shotgun

3: Cartridges (always best to have more than you think you'll need)

4: Hide of some descrpition be it a camo net, pop up type or natural i.e. hiding in a hedge row

5: decoys

that should get you going but dont forget the most important thing

Many, many thanks ST3V3

The permission to shoot may prove difficult. I'm struggling to find somewhere. :/

I've got a lovely old mossberg that i've been told would be perfect for pigeons.

Cartridges aren't too much of a problem.

A hid can be easily improvised from what I have.

Decoys present a problem to me though. :(

Would you say insurance is essential?

sorry to be negative here, but if you can "hit anything that flies" yet are struggling with finding permission, one contradicts the other

and surely, if you'vre been shooting stuff already, insurance should be your first priority

I can hit pretty much anything that flies, as of yet,

I can hit almost every target thrown, but not rabbit clay things.

see, adding that extra bit of info, gives everyone a better idea, your first reply came across as anything "live" that flies, your last post makes it more clearer, live pigeons are tottally different to clays, you'll have fun...

Im very surprised a clay ground let you shoot with no insurance

One big thing not mentioned yet is recon, learn flightlines and discover where the pigeon are feeding.

I've never shot a clay ground that required insurance, but you really should have it in the field.

Do you have anyone local who could take you out with them?

I'm still at school, in sixth form. I'm looking to do either mechanical engineering or product design at uni afterwards.

I dont know anyone local who I can shoot with unfortunately. I've been shooting clays for about a year and a half now but I've always been interested in pigeon shooting. Its just when and where thats the problem, and a relatively small budget. :(
