here go,s

shot air guns + shotguns all me life but never been out with anyone with a rifle .

thinking of starting up but dont no what to do? used to the safety side of things but had no experence at all .

thinking of getting a 22 hornet as land that i shoot on has been passed for this .

if i get passed for this rifle is it a good start point or are most people's thoughts with a 22 rimfire .

just found this and fell in love what do you think?

Never shot the hornet but have and use the .223 to which the land mentioned should or would be passed for this calibre also .

Not trying to put you off but at 100yds the bullet will pass cleanly through 10mm thick Steel plate so not very forgiving if you get things wrong .The realisation is you spend more time giving the shot up for the reason of a lack of backstop....It's this experience thats stops you pulling the trigger NO MATTER how tempting the shot is

Apply for your FAC and put down .17hmr for Vermin only ,leave fox off as it'll strenghten the case for CTR FIRE on your initial application  and either the hornet or the more popular and widly used .223 for Fox and Vermin :sly:

Ive

the hornet in my honest opinion is a toy.

it dosent in my mind serve such a service as a .222 or .223 would.

yes its quiet, but its still supersonic (and well supersonic using 35grain bullets)

its not an easy round to handload for, components are expensive when handloading, it is not a flat shoot round, and cant be used on foxes much past 180 yards (at this point its dropped a good 4 inches anyway) and you need to be very precise with shot placement, it wont kill consistantly with a poor shot (belly shot etc).

save your money up and buy a .222/.223, they are much better as a foxing gun, they shoot alot flatter, can be used with much heavier bullets and still shoot flatter, they hit alot harder, components are much more common and generally cheaper, and they can kill out to 300 yards if you can do your part.

if your bothered about noise buy a silencer for it. The difference between a silenced hornet and .222 isnt so much that i would give a 100 yard handicap on the foxes.
