kyska
Hi All, We're off to have a go at some roost shooting this evening, after some recce, the pigeon look as though they are using a very confined area of treeland to roost in...Question, should be put the hide up or kind of get into to cover? UKPoacher
Traditionally roost shooting is done straight after the pheasant season when the trees are bare. Then you stand in the woods and shoot up through the open areas of the tree branches. This time of year you will have no choice but to shoot them as they come in. If you stand against the foliage they will see you mount your gun unless you can find a lowish bush or similar to stand behind. I would take a couple of poles and your net then you can choose where to stand rather than be compromised by the cover available.

ellebarto
What about decoys and other equipment? I know the basic principle of roost shooting but just gained a new permission today with a 10 acre roosting wood. Dying to get in there but never done it before. Just walked it now and it's buzzing with crows an pigeon. Great slope and thick hedge on the edges. Perfect!
