Pigeon love

Managed a few hours out today. Sunshine and a nice breeze.

Set up decoys around 11.00hrs, just slightly off from a flight line I know runs across the farm, but close enough for pigeons to see my pattern.

Field was full of clover, and Pigeons have been on it before to feed.

First hour, missed two crows, one pigeon. Not looking good. lots moving around but not coming close enough.

2nd hour, got 3 pigeons, the first two were lovely, going very fast, because they had the wind behind them and coming in low to have a look at the decoys. 3rd was not bad, but coming in slower to land. Missed two crows (probably the same one come back to laugh at my shooting  )

3rd hour, missed 3 pigeons, 1 jackdaw and crow.

Went for a walk about to stretch the legs, saw nothing moving, so went back to hide and sat for another 30 mins, before deciding to call it a day.

Not impressive shooting as a whole, but still a lovely day out, and I did get to see two Roe deers from about 15yds away, when they walked through my decoy pattern!!

Still, back out on Monday, so hopfully the aim will improve over the weekend ;)

Anyone else been out today? How did you do?

I've said it on here before, but try practising on the skeet range if you can. A few rounds here and there can only help being able to hit decoying pigeon.

Yes, I heard something about a important marriage, so choose to go and help my mate move a load of rubble to fill in his pond (yes the fish had vacated  ) gping shooting again would have been pushing it with the missus!!!

Going out again on Monday, so will hopefully do better than Thursday.

I have been thinking about clay shooting to help out with the pigeon shooting, but have never been to a clay ground before, and so do not know how it works, do you have to be a member? what do I pay for etc...

Any tips welcome.

AS I found, if you just go along and tell the club/org that you're starting out and need pointing in the right direction you will find most (who want repeat business) will be very helpful. THere is absolutely no need to be nervous

My local shooting centre does lessons (from about £40) and practise sessions are available - £5.50 for a round of skeet (25 clays), £9.50 for a sporting round of 40 clays.

Most experienced shooters are only too happy to offer advice and spot where you are missing, in front, behind etc

They sell clay carts at £4.50 for a box too, or you provide your own carts.

Have fun - I did today at the clays  :yp:
