21g and Lanber

Hi, new to this shooting malarkey, got a new Lanber Sporting Deluxe 12 bore, thought could share with my 15 year old son at first, he is as tall as me but let's say not as well built! When held the gun he struggled a bit at first and we were advised to get 21g carts for him, I use 28 and no problem but when he goes with the lighter carts, he notices big difference in kick back, but what we find is that, when he fired the first barrel all ok then nothing with the second, we found he has to fire, put safety on and off then second barrel fires ok, is this because it's a new gun or is it and always will be like it because of the lighter load cartridges?

Thanks for any advice and as said, new to this so need all the help we can get !

Unless your gun has full mechanical triggers (not many do) then the recoil from the first shell activates the mech for the next shot. Obviously a reduction in recoil can lead to problems on some guns. It is easily fixed but a no go DIY, it must be handed over to a gunsmith.

Have you tried shooting the gun with 21gm yourself, and does it do the same with you ?

Reason i ask is that some guns need the inertia to set the second barrel and if your son doesn't provide the nessasary resistance ( he gets pushed back instead of resisting it) then not enough inertia may be present to change the selector over.

Have heard some auto's don't cycle if they are fired off the shoulder...

As it's a new gun, if it still doesn't work with you shooting 21gm ,take it back to the dealer as it should work with that load.

Let us know what the problem was when you've sorted it

We have a Lanber too and can confirm that it fires 21g absolutely fine always cocking the trigger for the second barrel.

BUT a poor gun mount, or just not standing into the shot will cause a problem with any cartridge - but particularly the 21g. When I took my Son shooting he had exactly the same problem as your lad! But by working on his mount it was soon resolved.

I doubt that there is anything wrong with the gun or specifically with using 21g cartridges.

Try shooting a few yourself and I bet it's fine (assumiong your mount is OK :P )

Good luck

Steve

Cannot remember if I tried the gun with 21g or not, old age catching up! Hopefully get up too Sporting Targets on Sunday, I cannot make Saturday and the charity bash as I am busy , I hope I get it all done on the day so we can go out Sunday, otherwise have to wait till next weekend, shame we cannot make the Saturday Charity shoot, as it would have been good to see a great bunch of people, well we wish good luck to them all for a great day, looks like showers in the morning, hope the Met Office wrong as usual.

The guys are indeed correct about the inertia system not cocking with 21g loads, its quite common.

You can either pull the gun harder into the shoulder which is not the best way or take it back and get it adjusted so it will fire 21g. Its a small and quick job to do.
