Break Barrel or Under lever?

Supposedly fixed barrel underlever guns are meant to be more accurate than break barrel ?

I would imagine with fixed barrel there's no possible change in alignement of barrel in relation to sights mounted on the action ?

but I would think unless you have a particularly worn/sloppy pivot on the break barrel you'd be hard pushed to notice difference ?

I've got a hard hitting Gamo CFX underlever and can't fit a bi pod or sling easily, but my sons b/b Syntarg is easy to use too.

Should pick up my R10 MkII FAC today

I think you have hit the nail on the head, the break barrel is quicker and easier to load and if the action is tight you will bearly notice the difference over practical hunting ranges. If I am shooting my springers rather than pcp and am going to the range I will usually take my HW77 or HW97 which as you know are under leaver. If I am shooting live quarry I will reach or my HW80 or HW90.

Like the man says, though the extra accuraccy is gonna be hard to measure even at extended ranges with a good break barrel these days. 30 yrs + ago the case was very much for a fixed shooting better, guns like the HW80 and the Theoben sirroco and improved manufacturing tollerances / design changed that

Not much difference between them... but... underlever for me. Purely because my HW97k handles so well. If I had a HW80 I would be the other side of the fence :D

Not sure about the time to cock/load. Doesn't seem slow with the 97k, especially compared with a single shot PCP.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had a BSA Lightning Tactical XL, actually had two of them, both went wrong. Both break barrel guns. Replaced for an Air Arms TX200HC, love it to bits. It's under leaver and you can tell the difference for sure... ok there is a cost difference between guns, but I'd say you have to spend a fair whack on a break barrel to get really nice machining and finish quality.
