for those who previously dissmissed this round as a close ish fox round,or target range round, ive just won a new british gallery rilfe record,a gold medal, and a silver with this rifle and its load, 240gn rnfp and 5.7gns of american select, for target, from 20m out to 50,up 2 clicks for 100m. the same weight bullet but expanding for fox. take that critics........................................................

I completely forgot Andy-sorry! We had a wander down to the gallery rifle ranges and was intresting to see people with speed loaders for the 10/22 mags.Unfortunately i didnt think to bring earplugs and it was still pretty darn loud from the waiting area bit outside of the firing points! Had a great time and was in awe of one stand which had a 50cal on display-the muzzle brake alone was huge.

My congratulations, but I'm a little confused, just which part of 20-50m and up 2 clicks for 100m is LONG range, have you not just confirmed it is a close range calibre?

Cheers!

i found it drops a little on the range at 100m,so up a bit on the scope seems to compensate, its actully 4 clicks, slight typo error there!! our club does a long range carbine comp,so im trying to develop a load for 100,200,and 300m,100 is now sorted, but the others is gonna take a little bit of working out. the other guys manage it,but i can tell u between 200 and 300 the scores take a nose dive.

I'm not that familier with the .44 but one of my club members has a Winchester 1892 (from around 1900) with hexagonal barrel in .44 (I guess not Magnum), it has iron sights and I have used it at 50 yards and 200 yards, as have a few other club members, he also has a much newer .38 Winchester.

The .44 is a pussy cat to fire and smooth as silk, and for what it is he can get perfectly acceptable results at 200! Not tried any further but I can imagine it could be like falling off a cliff!

Yeah there were a stall inside the pavillion which was selling the rounds at £3 a pop.

I had a great day looking at the old rifles and has given me ideas for next variation. Found someone flogging 357mag bullets for £22 per 500 so i bought 1000 and stocked up on primers/powder too.I bought Alliant 2400 then did some load testing sunday with the new bullets and powder.Groups nice using just 5 grains, but seems to be dirtier than Vectan A1.

Samson used to make a full power 44mag with a 180grn jacketed head, perhaps that weight would be easier to shoot at long range than the 240grn.

that is something ive considerd, and i think realisticly will be the way to go.i know the .357 is or seems to be the most popular with the guys at the club for long range.but im not buying another gun just for that comp!! anyhow the orig post is to say that this rifle is now proved.
