Pigeons could carry deadly bird flu into city centres……… The feral birds, already considered a health hazard in urban areas, are capable of being infected by the H5N1 strain, scientists have learned………. an expert yesterday warned that if H5N1 was confirmed in British wild birds, all species should be considered at risk.

Dr. Bob McCracken, former president of the British Vetinary Association, said “In the event of the infection being present in our wild bird population, there is a danger to all avian species, wild, feral and domestic - and that includes pigeons.”………………….

Asked what could be done about pigeons with the virus infesting London’s Trafalgar Square or other city centre sites, he said “That would be very difficult to control.”

Have you noticed how all the experts and politicians on TV & radio, ONLY seem to talk about wild birds and poultry farms ?

What are the government’s plans is there is a bird flu outbreak amongst an urban feral population ?

And of course, as well as British cities, there are urban ferals all across Europe.

Have a Nice Day….. :D

HI,

In September 2 Mallards were shot in Scotland with bird flu but... it wasn't the leathel strain. One of the non-leathel strains was over here 5 years ago and that was dealt with. Also I thought I heard on the news yesterday that France had eradicated it however they can't be to sure because many birds have been vaccinated they don't show the symptoms so it could still be there. :/

My hens and ducks are having a hard time at the moment. First the fox now this :( but I doubt there will be an epidemic. (I'm a pessimist)

Well it's JUST been confirmed it IS H5N1 :)

Well LG,

what can we say ? what can we do ?

As far as pigeons are concerned, my political opinion remains unchanged.

And it is quite straightforward.

I say we should exterminate them.

EXTERMINATE THEM ALL.

EXTERMINATE THEM NOW.

the Lizard.

P.S. If you've already shot 'em, they can't catch Bird Flu. :/

No, but they can pass it on to you :/ :( .

Not if you don't touch 'em Frank.

I ALWAYS wear rubber gloves when handling a dead feral.

Treat it as a BioHazard. That's the way you gotta do it.

There's about 30 other infectious diseases they can carry...... and that was before Bird Flu.

Hi,

Did anybody see on BBC Breakfast this morning the 'expert' talking about 'bird hunting' and that it should be stopped within a cetain distance of the area? I can't remember exactly what he said but if I remember correctly it was a stupid distance. :( He said that game was out of season so it shouldn't be going on but I doubt he lives in the real world and doesn't realise that vermin such as pigeons need to be shot outside of the game seasons. :/
