dan-250
Hi guys an anyone recommend me some decoys? What type to go for ? Do people just use the shells on pegs or do you need full bodies, I've seen 12 x shells on eBay for around 20-25 quid are these any good or just tat ? Any advice will be awesome, cheers dan
B25Modelman
I used shells, some proprietory, some homemade, a few full bodies and then pegged out a few real (once shot) My best day was 200 birds on peas but that was back in the 80's when I lived in Aberdeen. motty
I would recommend getting a dozen good quality flocked shells with spring sticks, to start with. These should set you back £40-50.They will work in all decoying situations. Try getting decent quality ones as some i've had in the past lasted two sessions before the flocking started coming off in big chunks. UKSW is a good place to look. fruitloop
http://www.countrymanofderby.co.uk/WEBSHOP/index1.html decoys £19.99 per dozen with spring sticks and if you spend moor than £35 posage is free. flocked is when there coverd with a fuzz that always comes off even if you pay top ££ and imo a wast of mony when normal plastic deeks work some folk spend way to much on kit and not long enough in the field Edited June 3, 2011 by fruitloop

If you do use shot birds as decoys, just be aware on long hot days (yes I know we are in GB) they can go OFF quite quickly. Just a thought if you are selling to a game dealer or butcher I mention this from experience.
dan-250
Yer I will, some I will eat myself but never thought of selling them, I'd give them away to the land owner and also some of the oldies around the village. Did anyone want to show me how to decoy properly ? I could do with some tips on them ?

Did anyone want to show me how to decoy properly ? I could do with some tips on them ? Go to Nickbeardo's tips and tricks, it has a number of useful decoy layouts. It is in the pinned section. A great source of information

As i stated, if good quality flocked decoys are purchased, then they will last years. Some i have are over 5 years old and have only very minor signs of wear - these have had plenty of use!
