I need to build a new kennel for my new cocker as the one she is in now is not suitable for the winter. what is the min size the kennel needs to be ??

i was thinking of a design like a large rabbit hutch would that be ok ? Any pics of other peoples would be great

if your only having 1 dog inside the smaller the better really as the bigger the kennel

the more energy the dog uses to keep warm and will struggle to keep the weight on

so roughly what size are we looking at ? would you also put a roof over half the run even thought the box will be roofed and felted?

my spaniels are ok in 3ft cubed box removable lid = to clean out box, door offset to one side so dog can keep out of drafts and with a shelf inside big enough for dog to curl up on so its not laying on the floor where the muck collects of the dogs coat and paws.i few thoughts for your design . :hmm:and the roof is flat with a six inch fall.

if you follow meinderbys sizes for the kennel that will be fine and as daft as it sounds if you insulate

with 1 inch polystryine then cover with hardboard or something similar to stop the dog chewing it it does stay cool in summer and warm as toast in winter you could cover 1 third or half of run so dog gets some shade when its to hot if you wanted
