maxie
Is it necessary to wax an oiled stock to protect it from the rain,or would oil provide enough protection on its own.Your views please
VicW
The correct type of oil is more than adequate for wood protection. It is easy to use and gives a good finish. It should be used sparingly, for example, two drops on the end of your finger is enough for one side of a stock. Spread it over and rub it in with your hand, hard enough to generate heat in your hand.Use the ball of your thumb where possible. Don't put it in the chequering and don't forget the forend. Vic. Dekers
Don't use mineral oils on wooden stocks, but many other oils will do. IF someone has a real cracker of a make/type of oil to use I'd like to hear. Legia is very useful, cleans and protects your wood as well as the metalwork, but there must be better for the wood itself!
