Wee buck this morning.

Up and out for 3.30 this morning with a fine mild morning but very still and hardly a breath of wind. The first couple of places had a roe or two but nothing stalkable but on the 3rd there was a buck with 2 does and a single buck about 300 yards apart. The buck with the does was a mature 6 pointer but the wee breeze made a stalk impossible so we took the other one and it was a simple enough stalk of about 200 yards and totally out of sight of him. When we got to a good firing point,a look showed that he had decided to lie down and although id normally neck or head him,the position he was in wasnt ideal. We were waiting for him to rise when Mac nudged me and pointed away to our right, and a glass showed another buck just coming out of the woods. He was a relatively easy stalk too so i barked at the lying buck to try and raise him.It did the trick, but i couldnt have been convincing as he just legged it away without stopping. We then turned our attention to the other buck, but he surprised us by legging it towards us to within 50 yards, clocked us and then legged it back towards the trees.I went on the sticks, and luckily before he went into the trees he stopped for the usual look back so i squeezed and on the impact he ran a small semi circle and dropped.A young 4 pointer and perfect for the freezer so went to the MILs to butcher him.By the time we got there the rain had come on quite heavy so we boned him out and i staked the carcass down and will try for a fox at it later in the week.

Nice write up with some good photos, like the sky in that first photo,it's sights like that makes it worth getting up early, and a bonus of some nice roe meat for the freezer. :good:

Cant get out at moment to busy at work...I will catch up with a few once the rut starts.

I was too busy also, but over 2 weeks ago i damaged the hand a wee bit.Worked with it but the pain got too much so went to the quack and ive badly ruptured ligaments at the web of my thumb.A telemed specialist from Aberdeen said hopefully its only a partial otherwise possible surgery required so heres hoping.Might have to curb the stalking a bit as i keep forgetting about the hand and yarking it.

Had a wee bit of very early rut movement here but will be a while before its in full swing, and hoping you get a few when you do get out.
