person22
hello, after watching the river cottage programmes a few too many times ive decided ive really gotta come for a holiday in the west country this summer, im sure u locals must get sick of us tourists but it looks so nice in weymouth on tv, ive never been but always wanted to, can anyone suggest the best place to go for a weekend? maybe somewhere a bit less touristy but keep in mind i am young and will be wanted to get wasted everynite. in our local friday ad i saw someone was renting old windmills to stay in that would be cool! but only big enough for 2 people, probably about 4 of us going, anyway let us know guys, cheers
andystone
river cottage is filmed in a small village near to west bay doreset. i'm only just over the border in somerset. if you ask me this part of the world is fab and the tourists (grockles as they are called) bring in loads of pennies! weymouth is very good fun when 'out on the lash', i often, during the summer months, pop down for an all dayer! henry d
Certainly is as the Royal Navy have Portland just round the bay,so you could get yourself a nice jolly jack tar or even a jenny wren,as they are onboard now Seriously I`ve had some great nights out there and there used to be some top restaurants too! andystone
i don't believe that the navy are based in portland anymore, but come the warmer months there is plenty of 'tourist totty' about looking for good times!
andystone
weymouth is a good night out as long as you remember it's only a seaside town, not a big city. i have heard rumours that there is a strip club down there, but i haven't confirmed as of yet
henry d
Portland no more I find that hard to believe as that was the main work up place. The town will become a ghost town I caught some nice Bass off the pier there.
dunganick
i went to this area last year on holiday and are going again this year. i had already been 2 years ago with the school so i had seen all of the tourist attractions and to be honest it wasnt the most intresting holiday ever. The only intresting thing was the portland clay ground, one of the best clay grounds ive ever shot, mostly covered points, and a self buttoning system. Thank god we took the guns. This area also has an awsome pigeon population (or certainly did last year) and would be great for some decoying (any members in this area who might be intrested in taking me and my old man out for a few days decoying please get in touch, we are very intrested) The countryside around there is great, and if your a national trust member you can loose yourself in the massive area's around there. There was also a gamefair near by last year and in typical game fair fashion it was a let down. I make it sound bad, but its really not, the countryside is lovely and i will be doing alot of cycling this holiday. I do recomend it, lovely area. harryhawk
River Cottage HQ is in the process of moving, it's just outside Lyme Regis now at a bigger location. If you go to Bridport farmer's market you may bump into the man selling his wares. East Devons worth a look.
